There are many choices for your child’s elementary education, including both local public and private schools with good reputations. What makes MDS Elementary stand out from the others? MDS Elementary is a small, family oriented program that provides education far beyond academic learning. Through practical life activities, community, collaboration and student-driven progression through the curriculum, we educate the whole person to create in your child a zeal for learning and a zest for life they will bring to everything they do. Through the Montessori philosophy, we build confidence and the motivation to work for one’s self, not for others. We help the child discover the role of academic subjects and life skills in the everyday world around them, and it this context that motivates them to learn and grow.

Even if your child completed the preschool Montessori program, the elementary environment has much to add to your child’s education. At the ages of 3-6, the child is most interested in acquiring information and language. At the elementary level (ages 6-12), the child takes this acquired knowledge and begins a quest to learn the “why”–to make sense of the world around them and their role within it. It is through the Montessori elementary environment and curriculum that they find the security and confidence to be the person they create themselves.

The Parent Perspective

To provide some insight into the value to parents of the MDS Elementary program, below is a comment from a parent of an MDS Elementary student:

“Our daughter learned more in one year at MDS, than she’d learned in the previous three, and all at her own pace which she set! She loves being able to have choice about her area of focus as well as the order in which she studies and learns various topics. Because of the freedom and independence of this approach, she knows how to focus herself and study/work on her own at home – which is something she will choose to do because learning at MDS has instilled a passion for learning; it’s a pleasurable and satisfying experience for her. Unlike my friends with kids in the public school system, my daughter never wakes up and says, “I don’t want to go to school”. Instead, she wakes up and tells me what kinds of activities and adventure the day holds for her. It’s worth everything to me.”
